The day I landed in NYC, I went straight to The Met for the last day of the Irving Penn – Centennial exhibition. It featured 200 of his best work including portraits and still life. I was completely blown away seeing his work in person. The photographs are absolutely breathtaking and to think that we didn’t have the photo manipulation that we have today is astounding. The neutral theatre curtain backdrop in the last photo travelled with him from studio to studio all across the world for a half century! Talk about simplicity at it’s best!
